Mitchell View

About

Mitchell View sits at approximately 3000 feet in the heart of the Black Mountain Range with views of Mt. Mitchell, Big Tom, Winter Star and many more all sitting at 5000 to 6000+ feet.  Mt. Mitchell is known as the tallest peak east of the Mississippi River.  The sounds of the South Toe River flowing over the rocky riverbed can be heard from the porch while you gaze at the ever-changing scenery of the Black Mountains.   The quaint home has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a cozy den with a stone fireplace for those cold evenings.

The adventure begins as a trek up the NC Scenic Byway of Highway 80 South from Marion, NC.  Highway 80S is a climbing highway of switchbacks following along Buck Creek and passing the beautiful Lake Toxaway.  The location has an abundance of hiking trails from easy to moderate to strenuous levels. 

Things to see and do:

You will often see trout fisherman hanging out along the South Toe River, Mt. Mitchell golf course and Hawtree’s Restaurant (both seasonal) are located 1 mile away. Day and overnight visitors at the Hemlock State Park which has a deep clear mountain water swimming hole, Black Mountain Campground, Roaring Fork Falls and an old but still passable pedestrian bridge built by the Army Corps of Engineers is just down the road.  Take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway to visit Mt. Mitchel State Park or Crabtree Falls.  The entrance of the Blue Ridge Parkway is only 3 miles up to the road.  Pack a charcuterie board and a bottle of wine and stop along the Black Mountain overlook and watch the sun set below the mountains.  (Sidebar:  Mitchell View is located just below the Black Mountain overlook) Artist are abundant in the area with studios doted all along the roadways.
